Iran Retains Chairmanship of UN-GGIM-AP Working Group 3

The Islamic Republic of Iran has once again solidified its prominent position in global geospatial information management. The re-election of Dr. Seyed Eskandar Seydaei, Dirctor General of the National Cartographic Center (NCC) of Iran, to chair Working Group 3 of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP), signifies Iran's unwavering commitment and expertise in integrating statistical and spatial data.
Working Group 3 plays a pivotal role in advancing the integration of statistical and spatial data, which is essential for monitoring and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the Asia-Pacific region. Iran has consistently been at the forefront of initiatives that harmonize geospatial data frameworks, thereby facilitating informed decision-making.
Furthermore, India and Korea were jointly elected as co-chairs of the UN-GGIM-AP. In a significant development, with the approval and consensus of the members, a new Working Group 5, focused on the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Geospatial Information (GeoAI), was added to the existing working groups. This new working group will be chaired by China, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has proudly joined as a member.
Dr. Seydaei's continued tenure in this role demonstrates the international community's trust in Iran's capabilities and its valuable contributions to advancing UN-GGIM-AP's objectives.
