Dispatching Delegation of Islamic Republic of Iran Headed by NCC in High-level Consultative Meeting on Risk Data Monitoring and Disaster Information Management in Turkey

After the selection of Director General of the National Cartographic Center of Iran, as the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the meeting of the APDIM Governing Council, dispatching the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by NCC, they participated and gave speeches in the high-level consultative meeting on risk data monitoring and disaster information management which was held in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to the International Relations Office at NCC, after the selection of  Director General of the National Cartographic Center of  Iran, as the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the meeting of the APDIM Governing Council, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by NCC , They participated and gave speeches in the high-level consultative meeting on risk data monitoring and disaster information management and their role in enhancing monitoring, impact-based forecasting, and early warning , which was held in Istanbul, Turkey.
 
In this meeting, which was held at the invitation of the United Nations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and hosted by Turkey in  Istanbul on December 06, 2022, a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Dr. Ali Javidaneh, Director General of the National Cartographic Center of  Iran, and his companions, Dr. Abdolreza Saadat,  Geodesy and Land surveying manager of NCC, Dr. Mousavi, Head of the Information, Public Relations and International Affairs Center of Plan and Budget Organization and Eng.Haji Mohammadi, an expert in the Environment Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the event.

In this meeting, while referring to the Iran activities in the field of crisis management by the relevant organizations, including the National Dust Headquarters, the National Crisis Management Organization, Department of Environment and the National Meteorological Organization, the importance of maps and spatial information and the prominent role of NCC in crisis management, Dr.Javidaneh   said: "The crisis committee of NCC consists of 6 specialized working groups on various disaster issues and is actively collecting data, analyzing and sending the results to the relevant organizations in the country."

In the following, Dr. Saadat gave a speech about the position of the flood. Referring to last year's floods in Iran and the prominent role of spatial data and in preparing flood maps and presenting them to the crisis management organization, he offered suggestions such as preparing a comprehensive database for data sharing. Increasing the accuracy of flood forecasting models and creating national and regional flood forecasting services (for sharing data, experiences).

 High-level Consultative Meeting on Risk Data Governance and Disaster Information Management was held in Republic of Turkey, Building on the outcomes of previous meetings, the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) in cooperation with the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Government of the Republic of Turkey. a High-level Consultative Meeting on the Role of Risk Data Governance and Disaster Information Management to Enhance Impact-based Forecasting, Monitoring and Early Warning is being held on 6th and 7th December 2022 in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey. The objective of the event is to identify ways in which risk data governance and disaster information management can be strengthened to enhance disaster risk impact-based forecasting, monitoring and early warning.

According to the statistics related to disasters in Asia and the Pacific and the need to increase regional cooperation for resilience against disasters, it has been decided that the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) as one of the regional centers affiliated to ESCAP should be established. It is obvious that the activities of this center should be carried out under the technical and administrative standards of the United Nations.

By advancing standards for the national spatial data infrastructure to support disaster risk reduction and create more resilient and resilient buildings, the APDIM Center( Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management) provides an active mechanism for the ever-increasing needs to provide timely and accurate spatial information.

The aim of APDIM Center, as a sub-body of SCOPE Commission, is to manage information and knowledge for resilience and reducing the risks of natural disasters. NCC of the Islamic Republic of Iran  as a member of the United Nations Global Committee on Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP), has significantly contributed to the strengthening of the geospatial information infrastructure.

The area of activities of the APDIM center, according to the priority in reducing the risks of disasters, is the more vulnerable areas, which include South, Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, as well as North and Central Asia, but this center may eventually cover the entire Asia and Pacific region with its services. This center is supposed to include a multi-risk approach with an emphasis on earthquakes, floods, tornadoes and droughts as the main disasters of the region in its planning and activities. It is also supposed to include all aspects of disaster management and risk reduction before, after and during disasters.

It is worth mentioning that the seventh meeting of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management(APDIM) Governing Council will be held on December 07 with the presence of Dr. Ali Javidaneh, the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkey, and Director General of the National Cartographic Center of Iran (NCC) will read the statement of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
