According to NCC News, quoted from the International Cooperation and Engineering Services Export Office of NCC, following the effective interactions between the International Cooperation Office of NCC with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adnan Aliani, Director of Strategy and Program Management Division from UN-ESCAP met Ali Javidaneh, the Director General of NCC on June 11, 2023.

Mostafa Mohaghegh, Senior Coordinator of Asian and Pacific Center for Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) and Haji Mohammadi, expert of the Environment Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied Adnan Aliani.

In this meeting, Ali Javidaneh, the Director General of NCC, as the sole representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in APDIM and the member of the governing council of APDIM, while welcoming Aliani and thanking for his presence in NCC, explained about the performance of NCC in various fields and pointed out its importance in crisis management in the country and said: “National Cartographic Center of Iran with more than 70 years of experience in the field of maps and spatial information has been the member of international organizations and institutions. In the past 6 months, NCC has taken valuable measures in activating internal organizations to make the best possible use of international institutions, including APDIM. One of these measures is the draft framework for joint cooperation in the field of crisis that is prepared by NCC and is sent to the related organizations.”

Emphasizing the expansion of NCC’s international cooperation with international institutions including APDIM, Javidaneh said: “While localizing the science of Surveying Engineering, National Cartographic Center of Iran is ready to share its knowledge and experience with other countries and institutions and APDIM can be a bridge between Iran and other countries in the region regarding the exchange of knowledge and experience and would play an effective role in this regard.”

In the following, Moradian, head of International Cooperation and Engineering Services Export Office, while introducing NCC and its various departments, mentioned NCC’s valuable achievements in the international arena, including the chairmanship of working group 3 of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP), membership of UN-GGIM-AP executive board and active membership in two committees of the Economic Cooperation Organization and said: “In addition to holding specialized international training courses for ECO members in line with regional capacity building, NCC is ready to export engineering services to regional and trans-regional countries and APDIM can provide a good base for the development of international cooperation in this regard”.

Then Saadat, General Manager of Geodesy and Land Surveying Department of NCC and the Head of Crisis Management Committee of NCC gave a speech about the Crisis Management Committee. Referring to the valuable actions of this committee in the country, he said: “National Cartographic Center of Iran with access to all types of data and their appropriate and accurate analysis, can provide the necessary information to the organizations involved in the crisis as soon as possible and in the best possible way.”

Adnan Aliani, while thanking NCC and Dr. Javidaneh, mentioned the importance APDIM and how this center was formed in Asia and the Pacific and pointed to the problems of this center in the past years and said: “The Asia-Pacific Disaster Reduction Management Center was formed with great difficulty after the adoption of the UN resolution, and now that we are on the threshold of the 5th anniversary of its establishment, it will be subject to internal and international evaluations. Referring to the good actions and achievements of this center in the recent crises of the country, especially on the issue of dust, he added: “This center has prepared the dust framework document for the region and is ready to hold a specialized meeting in this regard.”

Referring to the expectations of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran from this center, Aliani said: “We hope that by solving the financial problems of this center, we will see the dynamic and impressive performance of APDIM in Iran and the region.”
