Representative of NCC Attends the 60th Session of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Turkey

According to NCC News, quoted from the International Cooperation and Engineering Services Export Office of NCC, the 60th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-60) convened from January 16 to 19, 2024 in Istanbul, Turkey. The meeting was the second meeting of the seventh assessment cycle.

 

At the opening of this meeting, Mr. Jim Skea, IPCC President, Mr. Abdalah Mokssit, IPCC Secretary, Celeste Saulo, Secretary of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Inger Anderson, Director of UNEP and Simon Stiell, Secretary of the UNFCCC gave the speech regarding the global importance of IPCC and its decisions.

 

This meeting is the second meeting of the seventh assessment cycle of preparing the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran consisting of the Meteorological Organization, the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and NCC, as well as the representatives of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, from the universities of Kharazmi, Ferdowsi of Mashhad and Semnan attended this meeting chaired by Sahar Tajbakhsh, as the national reference of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In this meeting, many topics were discussed, the most important of which was planning and determining the policy for preparing the seventh climate change report.

 

Representatives of 195 countries of the world are present in this meeting, which will be held for four days from 26 to 29 January (16 to 19 January). Ramin Papee is also present in this meeting as the representative of NCC of Iran. In this meeting, the outlines of the “7th AR7 Evaluation Report” will be determined, most of the content of this report is related to spatial information science. NCC has also reviewed the previous IPCC assessment reports and made comments and changes in them that have been accepted. It should be noted that the IPCC reports are known as the most important scientific documents and have an impact on the global economy, energy and environment.

 

In this meeting, various topics were discussed, including planning and determining the perspective of the seventh assessment cycle, the report of technical working groups (including translation and publications, data support and holding training courses), the status of financial support and budget, as well as the time, place and form of the 60th meeting.

 

It should be noted that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a group under the supervision of the United Nations that evaluates scientific, technical and socio-economic information related to climate change. The reports of this delegation are mainly analyzed and published based on geospatial information science, and these reports will be the basis for the political decisions of the United Nations and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
