According to the report of the International Relations of NCC, Dr. Jafarzadeh Imanabadi, the Director General of NCC conveyed a congratulatory message to the presidents of the International Surveying Associations on Earth Day.
The message is as follows:Itis a pleasure for me to congratulate you on Earth Day, which is annually celebrated on April 22.
Earth Day is a great opportunity to promote the culture of protection and preservation of the ecosystem and habitat in which human life grows and develops. Therefore, protecting this ecosystem has an undeniable role in institutionalization of the belief and the human being's will to have and maintain a healthy environment.
This year in Iran, the Department of Environment has chosen "Earth revitalization, Efficiency Increase for Sustainable Development" as the slogan of the Earth Day.
As we well know, the importance of Geomatics and geospatial information for the wellbeing and betterment of society, environment and economy can’t be ignored. Geospatial information and Geodesy has made significant contributions to the environment by monitoring solid Earth (tectonic and non-tectonic displacements), monitoring variations in the liquid Earth, monitoring the atmosphere with satellite geodetic techniques (ionosphere, troposphere) and monitoring jungle coverage and water resources.
Regrettably in this year, it is not feasible to celebrate Earth Day as in the previous years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has already spread to all countries of the world and made millions of people stay home. However, it is still possible to eliminate the virus and save the Earth and humans by adhering to the health protocols.
