Hasaninejad Pirkohi, Director General of International Affairs of the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Stefan Priesner the UN Resident Coordinator for the Islamic Republic of Iran attended the event and gave a speech respectively
For the Islamic Republic of Iran, achieving sustainable development has been a priority for decades and is reflected in all medium-term and long-term national documents, including the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the 20-year vision document, the five-year economic package, cultural and social development programs and annual budget. The five-year development plans are the key medium-term planning documents for the government.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2023-2027 was developed jointly between the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Nations to reflect and support National Sustainable Development Strategies and goals.
In 2021, The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) started working in Iran. Internal consultations with a wide range of national partners identified the evidence base for prioritizing development needs and opportunities for the UNSDCF. These consultations led to the prospect of UN support for the development of Iran, which is based on fair, inclusive, flexible and sustainable growth and development.
The five strategic priorities of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework include (a) socio-economic resilience; (b) public health; (c) environment; (d) Disaster risk reduction and its management; (e) the effects of drug use and drug trafficking.
The cooperation framework in the field of disaster risk reduction management will be to support development plans and strengthen organizational capacities for effective disaster preparedness, response and recovery while increasing the capacity of people working in the disaster resilience, risk reduction and preparedness area.
while attending the plenary session of this international meeting, Eng. Moradian participated in the specialized working group on “Disaster Risk Reduction Management” and expressed NCC’s point of view and the importance of spatial information in disaster risk reduction and the role of the world's National Mapping Agencies in this regard.
