The Web Map Service Standard (WMS) from the OGC Standards provides a simple HTTP interface for requesting geo-registered map images from one or more distributed geospatial databases.
These services are displayed in SDI along with the connection to the attributed metadata and are used for various applications such as the production of thematic maps and types of spatial analysis.
